Lakeside Fibers Knitting Retreats at The Washington Hotel on Washington Island

What more could one want in an island getaway?

The Washington Hotel, Restaurant & Culinary School offers this and more in a century-old hotel reborn in 2001 with a sensitive restoration that brought history to life again.

This Washington Island classic combines understated elegance with a 21st-century commitment to local, sustainable and organic products, from organic cotton bed linens to memorable menus crafted of the freshest local ingredients--including island wheat.

Located a short ferry ride from the tip of the Door County Peninsula, The Washington Hotel, Restaurant & Culinary School transports you back in time to a place where the pace is slower and meals and time together are meant to be savored.

Accommodations
Featuring charming, warm and cozy rooms and beautiful surroundings, The Washington Hotel has attracted travelers for the past 100 years. Built by a schooner captain to lodge other ships' captains while at port, the hotel's mission is much the same as it was a century ago - to provide a respite from daily life by offering extreme comfort, simplicity and elegance. The beds are unique, luxurious and comfortable. The robes are woven from fine organic cotton. Two bathrooms with steam showers are shared between eight rooms upstairs, and there are two additional lavatories downstairs.

Gourmet Food
Attendees will be treated to gourmet meals prepared by Executive Chef, Leah Caplan. The meals at The Washington Hotel tantalize the palate and educate the soul while emphasizing seasonal and indigenous foods. Rates include a European-style breakfast consisting of fresh pastries and granola made by the pastry chef, a variety of fruits, juice, coffee, and breads made in our brick oven by the Hotel's baker.

Knitting
Our schedule is blissfully open! This is a relaxing knitting respite. Bring your UFOs (UnFinished Objects) or any project that you are stuck on (and have been stuck on for how long?) or technique you have longed to learn and Miranda will be on hand to offer guidance and support. Or just sit, knit, relax and enjoy the island and spectacular gourmet food and accommodations.

New knitters welcome! If you've always wanted to learn to knit, please join us! You'll be on your way in no time!
